Losing the Plot

This series of landscape photographs was made across more than a decade of return visits to the Philippines. Neither documentary nor commemorative, the images accumulate as a record of disorientation — the experience of a place that is named as home and yet withholds that feeling. The title holds two meanings in tension: to lose the plot as a loss of narrative, and to lose the plot as a loss of land. What the work traces is quieter than absence — the sense of a place transforming faster than it can be grieved, of belonging that was always partly inherited, partly imagined, never fully secured. The photographs do not resolve this. They return to the landscape again and again, looking for what cannot quite be confirmed.
